Zombie Food. Brain Sandwiches. The Perfect Lunch for the Zombie Apocalypse.

In honor of my favorite show, The Walking Dead, and the impending zombie apocalypse…… I am sharing with you a treat of treats.

Seeing that this blog post is dedicated to the undead, the walking corpses..the fun loving zombie…today we feast on brains.

Alright, I’m not actually going to eat brains for the sake of  this kick ass blog, but I am going to treat you to a recipe that uses brains as the main ingredient.

I don’t braise brains like not Mario Batali nor do I crave cranium like Andrew Zimmern, so I will leave that to them..thank you very much.

( Unless the Food Network wants to contact me for my own show..then I’d eat zombie shit on a croissant, but for now I’ll stick to blogging.)

The following recipe was taken directly from Cook.com and seemed like the perfect meal for the zombie on the go.

Imagine you’re a zombie.  You are constantly walking and on the go. You never see a zombie just chillin out eating a taco or sipping some Earl Grey tea or even playing a video game…they are always walking and that burns calories requiring you to refuel. So what better what to fill up your undead belly….you got it..brain sandwiches.


Ingredients:

1 set of calves brains

1 qt. water
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 egg yolks
1 tbsp. melted butter
1 tsp. lemon rind
1/2 c. milk
2 stiffly beaten egg whites
Lard for deep frying
Soak the brains in cold acidulated water (1 quart water and 1 tablespoon vinegar) for just about 3 hours. You’ll want to skin them and soak in lukewarm water to free them from all traces of blood. Yeah..not too nasty.  Then as they are rather mushy in texture, firm them by again blanching in acidulated water and cover them for about 20 minutes but do not boil.
Once finished cooking, dry your brains and pull them apart into tiny pieces.

Combine the  flour, baking powder and salt. Beat egg yolks and blend dry ingredients into them. Beat in 1 tablespoon melted butter and 1 teaspoon lemon rind and 1/2 cup milk. Beat until stiff but not too dry, 2 egg whites. Fold them into the batter. Add the brains. Drop into hot lard and fry until they are golden brown on both sides, then drain them on paper towels.

Serve on a nice toasted bun with pickle, onion and mustard..or your favorite condiment.
